This was the main reason why they were a favorite among martial artists and athletes. From Wu Shu practitioners to the Shaolin Flying Monks and Kung Fu masters of old, the Feiyue sneaker became a staple and to this present day is still a regular in martial arts clubs around the world, and even the French training discipline of Parkour. The grippy rubber sole, reasonably strong build and sensitivity they give the wearer are traits also valued by free runners and traceurs, for whom intense movements really put the sneakers to the test.

For once, we are pausing to take a moment to recognize something that has absolutely nothing to do with furniture or design, but has such great importance to us. The 75 th anniversary of D-Day has made us very reflective of how fortunate we all are to have lived, for the most part, in a time of peace since the time of WWII. A few years ago, while at an antique market, Jamie and I came across a diary written by an RCAF Armourer someone responsible for loading bombs onto planes , who captured in great detail, his thoughts and experiences as a first-hand witness of the war. From a period of January 1, through to the end of the war in Europe in , he wrote about his friendships with his brothers-in-arms, his growing frustrations, the highs and the lows shared by everyone at the base, the small events that tell the personal story and the big events that changed the course of history for all. The diary includes detailed and exceptionally written first-hand accounts of the bombing of Britain, various bombing campaigns over Berlin, the wait for and eventual arrival of D-Day, the death of Hitler and the end of the war in Europe. Not only are his diaries filled with pictures of his friends, soldiers, bombers "Kites" and key news clippings, he was also a wartime tourist in the sense that he includes pictures of sites he saw on days off, the plays he went to and all that caught his interest while based in London.
We very well could be inside a cliche Americana film scene as envisioned by cosmopolitan advertising agency people from New York. But the dive bar is not a movie set— years of dust from the cotton harvest of the farms nearby have caked into the wood siding outside, and those layers are too real of a detail for an art department to capture. We have come to photograph this real thing. The next day begins a year long photo project for an agriscience company, Corteva. We meet the rest of the team in our hotel lobby, unaware of the ultimate bond we will all grow into through the work and travel ahead. It was the ultimate adventure into a world often overlooked, but essential to all life as we know it— the farm. When creating the images, you may see us hanging from a plow at dusk in Oklahoma.
